Skincare Regimen
What is a Skincare Regimen?
This is simply a care routine adopted for maintaining the skin health and achieving beauty needs.
Although skin care regimen differs according to skin type, there are three basic steps that should be carried out by everyone.
Basics Skincare Regimen Includes:
✓ cleanse
✓ Tone
✓ Moisturize
Cleansing: is the washing of the skin, to remove dirt, bacteria, makeup etc., and it is usually the first step to every routine.
Toning: is not a must for all, but many people use toners to clear up any residual makeup or cleanser, freshen the skin, balance PH of the skin and brightens up complexion before the moisturizer is applied.
Moisturizing: is a vital part of every regimen; moisturizers replenish the moisture and oils in the upper layer of the skin and provide a protective layer on the skin’s surface to prevent moisture loss.
In addition to moisturizers, there’s a whole lot more that goes into a good skincare routine.
A more advanced skincare regimen would comprise
- Cleanse: using bath wash, gels, soap etc.
- Exfoliate: using scrubs, peels etc.
- Tone: using toners, micellar water, astringents etc.
- Correct: using serums, mask etc.
- Moisturize: using lotions, cream, oil etc.
- Protect: Using sunscreen.
Problematic skin, aging skin, or skin whitening would benefit from having some extra steps added to the basic regimen, especially exfoliate, correct and protect.
Exfoliation is considered a valuable measure for achieving healthy glowing skin.
One of the reasons young skin is so clear and radiant is because it desquamates, sheds(exfoliate) naturally every 14days: but as age sets, this process slows and takes about 28-30days to shed dead skin cells; the use of exfoliators help to mechanically or chemically breakdown and exfoliate dead skin cells to reveal clearer, brighter skin restores suppleness and stimulates cell renewal.
Our course on “formulating with acids in skincare” teaches all you need to know about exfoliation, exfoliators, and how to formulate them.
Masks and serums are also the perfect way to treat temporary skin conditions as they deliver concentrated and beneficial nutrients to the skin.
